These General Terms for Veterinary Services, hereinafter the “Veterinary Service Terms”, describe how Vetofish organises its veterinary services and the conditions required for animal care.
They supplement, where applicable, the specific conditions appearing in a quote, a care contract, a health monitoring agreement, a purchase order or any other document accepted by the customer. In the event of a contradiction, the special conditions agreed with the customer prevail.
The commercial provisions relating to prices, expenses, billing and payment are set out in the General Terms of Sale.

3. Service delivery
Vetofish mainly operates by appointment, at the client’s home or on the site where the animals are kept, raised, presented, studied or taken care of.
Vetofish intervenes in particular:
- on farms and aquaculture establishments;
- in fish farms and hatcheries;
- in public aquariums and zoological establishments;
- in animal stores and research establishments;
- in structures for the conservation or presentation of aquatic animals;
- at the homes of individual holders;
- on any other site compatible with carrying out the envisaged acts.
Animals are not received for consultation at the Vetofish administrative headquarters.
Samples, dead animals and other samples must only be sent or deposited after prior agreement and in accordance with the instructions communicated by Vetofish.
4. Species treated
Vetofish mainly works with aquatic animals, in particular:
- freshwater and marine fish;
- aquatic or semi-aquatic amphibians;
- aquatic invertebrates, when the demand falls within the skills and resources available.
The possibility of intervening depends in particular on the species, its regulatory status, the condition of the animals, the nature of the request, the conditions of detention, the equipment available, the location of the site and the security and biosecurity conditions.
Vetofish may refuse, postpone, limit or interrupt an intervention when it exceeds its skills or means, when safety or animal welfare conditions are not met, when the request is contrary to regulations or when another structure appears better suited.
5. Veterinary services
Depending on the needs and conditions of intervention, Vetofish can notably carry out:
- individual or group consultations and clinical examinations;
- regular health visits and veterinary follow-ups;
- autopsies and diagnostic samples;
- additional examinations and analyses;
- the interpretation of analysis results;
- prescriptions and, under the conditions provided for by regulations, the delivery of veterinary medicines;
- acts of capture, restraint, anesthesia, analgesia, care or surgery;
- reproductive interventions;
- assessments of water quality and housing conditions;
- health, biosecurity or animal welfare audits;
- the development of health or therapeutic protocols;
- the drafting of reports, certificates or veterinary opinions.
Certain consulting, auditing, training, expertise or technical assistance services do not directly constitute acts of veterinary medicine or surgery. They may be subject to separate special conditions.
6. Appointment making and prior information
Interventions are organized by appointment, according to availability agreed with the client.
Taking into account travel times, the variable duration of previous interventions and possible emergencies, the announced schedule may be adjusted. Vetofish informs the customer as soon as possible in the event of a delay or significant impediment.
Before the intervention, the client communicates, to the extent that it is available, useful information concerning in particular:
- the number, species and categories of animals concerned;
- the nature and age of the problem observed;
- the clinical signs and mortalities observed;
- treatments already administered;
- available analysis results;
- relevant water quality parameters;
- recent changes to the environment or operation of facilities;
- known infectious, zoonotic, chemical or physical risks;
- special access and biosecurity rules;
- the equipment available for capturing, restraining, anesthetizing or isolating animals.
The customer also reports any access formalities, authorization, authorization or protective equipment required on the site.
7. Necessary conditions for intervention
The customer ensures that the intervention is carried out under satisfactory conditions. In particular, it must:
- ensure authorized and secure access to facilities;
- provide a person who knows the animals and how the site works;
- provide complete, accurate and up-to-date information;
- allow access to records, analysis results and useful water quality data;
- provide the agreed capture, restraint, transfer or isolation equipment;
- respect the instructions given for the preparation of the animals;
- report any particular danger present on the site;
- allow access to a work area adapted to the planned actions.
Vetofish may postpone, limit or interrupt the intervention when the safety of people or animals is not ensured, when the necessary equipment is absent or unsuitable, when the animals cannot be captured or handled without excessive risk, or when the material conditions do not allow the act to be carried out satisfactorily.
The services already provided, the travel and the costs incurred then remain due under the conditions provided for by the Terms of Sale.
8. Biosecurity
Vetofish applies biosecurity measures adapted to the situation and the information communicated.
The client must report before the intervention:
- any suspicion or confirmation of infectious disease;
- any unusual mortality;
- any suspicion of a regulated disease;
- any specific health measures applicable to the site;
- any restriction on the movement of people, animals, materials or samples.
The client communicates internal procedures relating to protective equipment, disinfection and circulation between different areas.
Vetofish may adapt the order of its visits, impose additional measures or postpone an intervention in order to limit the risks of transmission of pathogens between establishments.
Vetofish cannot be held responsible for the consequences of an unreported risk or of incomplete, inaccurate or concealed information by the client, without prejudice to the responsibilities legally incumbent upon it.
9. Examinations, sampling and analyses
The choice of animals examined, samples and analyzes depends on the clinical context, health history, diagnostic hypotheses, treatments already administered and the means available.
In a population of aquatic animals, the results obtained on a limited number of animals or samples do not always make it possible to exclude a condition in the entire group.
The quality and scope of the results depend in particular on:
- the representativeness of the animals collected;
- the state of conservation of the animals or samples;
- the time between death, sampling and analysis;
- packaging and transport conditions;
- treatments administered before collection;
- the quality of the information provided;
- performance and limits specific to the methods used.
Certain analyzes can be entrusted to partner or specialized laboratories. The delivery times announced are indicative and may depend on these service providers.
Samples must be packaged, identified and shipped in accordance with the instructions provided. Inadequate packaging or transport may make analyzes impossible or limit their interpretation.
Unless otherwise agreed or otherwise regulated, samples may be destroyed after the analyzes have been carried out and the technical retention period applied has expired.
10. Risks, information and consent
Any examination, capture, manipulation, restraint, transport, treatment, anesthesia or surgical procedure carries a risk.
This risk may be increased by the state of health of the animal, its species, its size, its behavior, the quality of the water, the environmental conditions, the possibilities of capture and restraint or the technical means available on the site.
The veterinarian provides the client with useful explanations on the envisaged diagnosis, the proposed procedures, the expected benefits, the main limits, the foreseeable risks and the alternatives where they exist, in order to obtain informed consent.
Consent can be obtained verbally for routine acts. A quote, a care contract or written consent may be requested for procedures presenting a risk, cost or special conditions.
The veterinarian may refuse or interrupt an act that he considers contrary to the interests of the animal, technically unsuitable, insufficiently secure or not in compliance with regulations.
Vetofish is bound by an obligation of means. It cannot guarantee the cure or survival of animals, the systematic identification of the cause of an illness, the complete eradication of a pathogenic agent or the obtaining of a determined zootechnical or reproductive result.
11. Prescription and veterinary drugs
Veterinary medicines are prescribed and, where appropriate, dispensed in compliance with applicable regulations.
Dispensing by Vetofish is limited to medications prescribed as part of its own interventions or health monitoring for which Vetofish is responsible. Vetofish does not maintain a pharmacy open to the public and does not deliver medications prescribed by a veterinarian outside the structure.
The customer undertakes to respect:
- doses, routes and methods of administration;
- the duration of treatment;
- storage conditions;
- any applicable waiting times;
- traceability and record-keeping obligations;
- precautions relating to people, other animals and the environment.
Any modification, extension or interruption of treatment should be discussed with the veterinarian.
The customer informs Vetofish of any adverse reaction, worsening of the animals’ condition, unusual mortality, administration difficulty or dosage error.
12. Continuity of care and emergencies
Vetofish ensures or ensures continuity of care for the animals entrusted to it, under conditions adapted to the mission, the location of the site, the species concerned and the necessary means.
Vetofish is not, however, a public emergency service available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
In the event of an emergency, the customer contacts Vetofish by the means usually used. In the absence of a sufficiently rapid response or when Vetofish does not have the appropriate resources, the customer is invited to contact:
- a veterinarian located nearby;
- a veterinary care establishment with the necessary equipment;
- the competent veterinary services when a regulated disease is suspected;
- any other relevant emergency service depending on the situation.
Vetofish communicates, to the extent of its possibilities, useful information to the veterinarian responsible for continuing care, while respecting professional secrecy and regulatory obligations.
When the terms of continuity of care are defined in a specific agreement, contract or protocol, the provisions of this document prevail.
13. Reports and records
Vetofish keeps the information necessary for monitoring interventions, writing prescriptions, continuity of care, billing and compliance with its professional and regulatory obligations.
Depending on the nature of the mission, Vetofish can transmit:
- a prescription;
- a report;
- a visit or autopsy report;
- analysis results;
- a health or therapeutic protocol;
- a certificate or veterinary opinion.
The conclusions are established based on the findings made, the information provided by the client and the results available at the date of writing. Any new information or developments in the situation may require their re-evaluation.
At the client’s request, useful information can be communicated to another veterinarian participating in the monitoring of the animals, while respecting professional secrecy and regulations.
14. Professional secrecy, confidentiality and personal data
Veterinarians and people working for Vetofish are subject to professional secrecy under the conditions provided for by regulations.
The data collected is used in particular to organize and carry out interventions, monitor animals, establish prescriptions, reports, quotes and invoices, transmit results and comply with legal and regulatory obligations.
Certain information may be transmitted to a laboratory, a colleague, a service provider, an administration, a health authority or an insurer when this transmission is necessary for the mission, the continuity of care, the management of a dispute or imposed by regulations.
Detailed terms for processing personal data are set out in the Privacy Policy.
Photographs, videos and information relating to animals or facilities are only used for communication, training or publication purposes after anonymization or with the agreement of the client, unless otherwise required by law.
15. Professional or ethical complaints
Any difficulty must first be addressed to Vetofish in order to seek an amicable solution:

Commercial complaints and consumer mediation arrangements are addressed in the General Terms of Sale.
16. Acceptance and evolution of Veterinary Service Terms
These Veterinary Service Terms are published on the Vetofish website and may be communicated with a quote, a contract, an agreement or a purchase order.
The request for intervention or the acceptance of a proposal after communication of these Veterinary Service Terms constitutes acceptance of them.
Vetofish may modify the Veterinary Service Terms in order to take into account developments in its activity, its organization, professional recommendations or regulations.
The applicable version is that communicated to the customer or published on the site at the time of acceptance of the service.
