What authorizations are required to transport live fish?
The training organisations listed below appeared in a list dated 25 August 2022. Check their current registration before enrolling. The French order of 12 November 2015 was repealed and replaced by the order of 14 January 2022.
Regulation (EC) No 1/2005 governs live fish transport carried out as an economic activity. Beyond 65 km, the transporter generally needs an authorisation.
Three aspects need to be checked before transport:
- The driver needs the knowledge required to transport fish. CAPTAV does not cover this species; suitable TAV training or a recognised diploma may demonstrate the relevant knowledge.
- The vehicle and its equipment must be suitable. Approval requirements depend in particular on the type and duration of the journey.
- The farm must meet the requirements applicable to its activity and to the health of the animals being transported.
Scope of application
This Regulations apply to the transport of animals carried out as part of an economic activity. The activity is interpreted in the broad sense and can result from the transport itself or its purpose (sale of animals, various transactions, driving to the slaughterhouse or assembly center).
Transporter authorisation is generally not required for a journey of 65 km or less.
However, this exemption does not exempt compliance with general principles, particularly concerning the fitness of animals for travel and the conformity of means of transport.
Driver qualification
Suitable training and certain diplomas may demonstrate the driver’s knowledge.
