What is the French ACACED and who needs it?
ACACED is the French knowledge certificate for domestic companion animals. It is one route by which a person can demonstrate the knowledge required for certain professional activities. For domestic fish, this includes commercial sale and public display for commercial purposes; the transit, boarding, education and training activities listed in Article L. 214-6-1 concern dogs and cats.
It is not by itself a licence to open or operate a business. The undertaking must also complete applicable declarations, comply with the health and welfare rules of the Order of 19 June 2025 (French summary) and, depending on activity, appoint an official veterinarian. Certain professional qualifications and the former CCAD capacity certificate may also prove knowledge under the conditions set by the rules.
The “other species” category includes domestic fish listed in French regulations. The exact requirement still depends on activity and species; work with non-domestic animals may fall under other certificates or permits.
Knowledge must be updated no later than ten years after the relevant diploma, certificate or assessment. The refresher course lasts at least seven hours with an authorised training body. Before enrolling, consult the current official list of authorised training bodies.
